Monthly Reports The Barefoot Investor

2 Months Down!

2 months has flown by! I really can’t believe it’s been that long since I started this journey. I’ve learnt so much in the last few months and I wish I had done this earlier.

Savings update

My first goal of this program (and the first step of Barefoot Investor) was to save $2,000 as an Emergency Fund. Since I now have no credit card if something happens then I need a stash of funds. For example if *knock on wood* the car breaks down or my fridge dies I have actually some money to get things going again without needing to use credit or loans.

I’m happy to say that as of today I have saved 88% of my goal. This money has come from a variety of sources including savings, my tax return, Facebook sales and survey income. Within 2 more weeks I will have my fund complete. I don’t think I’ve ever saved $2,000 so quickly in my life. To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever had this much savings in my life.

I’ve saved approx $300 per fortnightly pay which is great for someone who never used to spend that.

 Spending Update

Lets take a look at my spending on the few things I track which are food/groceries and retail shopping. I do track everything I spend but the things I mostly focus on are these.

Pay Period: 14/07-28/07

  • Retail Shopping: $195.73
  • Eating Out: $79.50
  • Groceries: $242.69

Total: $517.92

*Definitely could have spent less but a lot of my spending was with money I got from FB sales.

Pay Period: 28/07-11/07

  • Retail Shopping: $60.93
  • Eating Out: $109.69
  • Groceries: $137.66

 Total: $308.28

*Pretty happy with this!

Notes: During this last month I had to pay my yearly RACQ bill, my 6 month car Registration and my Utility bills are also due in a few days. These are all quite large expenses.

I’m going to be working to get all of my spending down even lower.

Question: What is your average grocery spend?
